Bernie Boudreaux is an attorney in the Baton Rouge office of Jones, Swanson, Huddell & Garrison, L.L.C.  His principal areas of practice are in corporate representation, business negotiations, joint ventures and business dispute resolution. Bernie has labored on behalf of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East to hold oil and gas companies accountable for their role in coastal land loss as outlined in the action filed in July of 2013 styled Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East, et al. v. Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, LLC, et al.

Prior to joining Jones Swanson, Bernie was a partner for ten years with Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson, LLP in Baton Rouge. Before his tenure at Breazeale Sachse, from 2000 to 2004, he served as Executive Counsel to Governor Murphy J. Foster, Jr., during which time he mediated disputes between the State of Louisiana and business entities such as Harrah’s, Inc.; the New Orleans Saints; and three Louisiana Native American tribes with respect to gaming contracts. Bernie also successfully mediated to conclusion the 47-year-old federal litigation as to the desegregation of the East Baton Rouge Parish Public School System.  Prior to his service as executive counsel to the Governor, he served as District Attorney for the 16th Judicial District of Louisiana, Parishes of Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary, during which time he served as President of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, 1985 to 1986.  He served on the LSU Board of Supervisors for eight years and as its Chairman from 2005 to 2006. He also served as an adjunct professor of law at the LSU Law School, 2004-2011.

Bernie is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of and General Counsel for Sterling Sugars, LLC, in addition to serving as General Counsel for M. A. Patout & Son Limited, LLC; Raceland Raw Sugar, LLC; St. Mary Sugar Cooperative, Inc.; LASUCA; and Allain-Lebreton, Inc. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of AVOCA, Inc.

Bernie received his J.D. from Louisiana State University in 1961 and his B.A. from University of Louisiana, Lafayette, in 1960.  His past experience also includes serving as Captain, USAF, Judge Advocate’s Department from 1961 to 1964.  He was with the firm of Bauer, Darnall, Fleming, McNulty, and Boudreaux in Franklin, Louisiana from 1964 to 1982.  He served as District Attorney (16th Judicial District of Louisiana, Parishes of Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary) for eighteen years, and as an assistant district attorney for fifteen years before that.  During that time he represented parish governing authorities and school boards, as well as hospital service districts and other public entities in those parishes.  He served as the city attorney for Franklin, Louisiana from 1968 to 1982.
