Katie E. Lasky, Associate

Katie Lasky is an attorney with Jones, Swanson, Huddell & Garrison, L.L.C.  who has been practicing law since 2003 in the fields of complex commercial and bankruptcy litigation.  She joined the firm in 2008, and has become an integral member of the commercial litigation team.  Katie ensures that the cases she handles proceed expeditiously and progress towards a timely resolution.  Katie’s commercial litigation practice focuses on corporate financial matters, including tax strategy litigation, contract and intellectual property disputes and breach of fiduciary duty claims.  She has also handled health care disputes, land use issues and mass tort matters.

Katie is currently assisting firm clients with such matters as pursuing a network of affiliated companies for fraudulent conveyance, breach of contract and fraud; and seeking damages arising out of the collapse of the Stanford Financial Group.

She was the lead associate on a suit the firm filed in 2007 on behalf of two local New Orleans technology companies that had devised the first successful citywide wireless video surveillance system in the United States, as recognized by national news outlets, including USA Today and HDNet.  One of the defendants settled with plaintiffs for a generous amount before trial and, on November 2, 2009, after six weeks of trial, a jury rendered verdict in favor of plaintiffs and against defendants in the amount of $16.3 million, finding that Dell, Inc. and other defendants had, among other findings, conspired to violate Louisiana’s fair trade practices act.  Two of the individual defendants, one of former City of New Orleans official and the other a contractor to the City, were prosecuted by the federal government for crimes arising out of the events uncovered through the civil suit.  The City official pled guilty while the contractor was convicted and sentenced to 17 ½ years in prison.

Prior to joining Jones Swanson, Katie worked for five years with Phelps Dunbar LLP, a regional law firm based in New Orleans, where her practice focused on commercial litigation and bankruptcy-related litigation, including the prosecution of breach of fiduciary duty cases against the former officers and directors of a large regional grocery chain and a national sportswear manufacturer, as well as the representation of a Chapter 7 Trustee in approximately fifty separate adversary cases filed in the Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

Katie graduated, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2003 after receiving her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Cornell University in 1998.
